Are you living in this crazy heat wave? Lighten things up with the effortless meal all in itself–the smoothie!
The best smoothies start with the simplest ingredients. No need to fuss. Fruits are great healthy sweetners–No extra sugar needed. The best thing? If you screw up, you can always fix it by adding something else 😉
HERE ARE 3 OF MY FAVORITE VEGAN SMOOTHIES TO BEAT THE SUMMER HEAT
1. Papaya+Vanilla+Cassis…if you don’t mind a little alcohol 🙂
This is one of the yummiest smoothies you can blend up. Yes, the ice cream is sugar, but you can use low-sugar coconut ice cream, soy ice cream, or my favorite–almond-based ice cream!
-1/2 fresh papaya
1/2 pint of VEGAN Vanilla Ice Cream
-a splash of Creme de Cassis **You can buy this at the liquor store. The best types are very thick like this:
Cut your papaya in half, then scoop 1/2 contents into a blender. Follow with 1/2 pint of VEGAN vanilla ice cream. You can always add more if you want more of the ice cream flavor. Blend these two ingredients until a thick smoothie forms. Pour into a tall glass, then add a splash of Creme de Cassis. This is essential. It’s a lovely little touch–wont’ get you drunk by any means–and it completes the flavor profile of this smoothie.
2. Protein Power
This is a great one to get your protein in for the morning. Bananas add potassium and mangos give the sweetness. It’s delish!
-Two cups of COLD Almond or Soy Milk
-One scoop of Spirulina Protein Powder
-1/2 ripe mango
-One banana, cut into pieces.
Start with REALLY COLD almond milk. Begin blending on low speed, then mix in the Spirulina protein. Remember, this stuff sticks to everything, so be sure to get it directly into the blender. While blend is going, add the mango in pieces. If it’s very ripe, then scoop the whole thing in. Keep blending, then add in the banana for thickness.
3. Berry Berry Fine
This smoothie almost tastes like a creamy sorbet, but it’s so much healthier! Berries provide antioxidants and vitamins to keep you healthy. Keep in mind that berries are also very sweet, so add them to taste.
-1/3 cup frozen blueberries
-1/3 cup frozen raspberries
-1/3 cup strawberries
-1/2 of COLD almond or soy milk
-1/2 cup plain VEGAN yogurt (try coconut-based yogurt. Or if you don’t want to go vegan, just use regular plain yogurt)
-A few mint leaves, plus one to top.
Start with the almond or soy milk, then add all berries. Blend until berries are smoothed out, then add the vegan yogurt. Taste your concoction. Do you want it more sweet? Then add more berries. If you want it less sweet, you’ll add more yogurt. Blend in the mint leaves, then pour in a tall glass to serve. Top with a mint leaf for a pretty effect.
ALL ARE SUPER EASY AND TAKE LESS THAN 5 MINUTES. GO GET YOUR SMOOTHIE ON!
